So when I heard that Adam Warren was coming down for TCAF  This past weekend I was so stoked! He was a huge influence on me back when I was just a little Paul. He was one of if the the first to bring the manga style to the mainstream of comics and got me on the road to liking anime which lead to liking Japan which lead to moving there for 5 years of my life.

So in short I wanted to pay tribute to the man  by doing a Photo Cosplay shoot of his current book Empowered (which is totally fun and you should all check it out!)

After showing the photos around, everyone said they loved them and that I was amazing at photoshop. Flattered as I was though I had to explain that it actually wasn’t that much photoshop. A lot of it was real prep in real life with a real awesome team of people!

You can see in the side by side exactly what I did do in post. Mainly added a style to the photos, smooth out some of the streaks in the liquid latex and fix some of the lens distortion.

The following is a time lapse video of us getting the costume ready for for the shoot. When finished I think we had somewhere around 4 – 6 coats of Liquid latex. And when we were finished and ripped off the costume I think Christine was down one layer of skin.

VIDEO: is not strictly safe for work

In the end I printed up the two photos, got a friend with far better handwriting than I to write the side notes as if they were the character and another friend with far prettier lips than mine for the kiss prints.

A note about the man, he was a true class act when I finally had the chance to hang out with him a little bit.

“Looking forward to book 7 Adam thx!”

I have to thank my dear friend Christine who stood still mostly naked for 2 1/2 hours getting painted in liquid latex to become EMP

Thanks to both Matt and Marika whom with out their knowledge in latex , this would not have been possible. (above blogs are NSFW)

And thanks to Parish and Daisy in helping out in the post post

PS: My favorite part of the set up was ordering food for everyone and when the delivery guy walked into the studio, seeing him go beet red and averting his eyes to the extreme in all directions.

the end.

That’s actually quite a lot of photoshopping! (although that doesn’t make it a bad photograph) I love the idea, love the model’s poses, and I love the execution. Good job! But I must say, I really like the highlight of the model’s hair better in the RAW capture (the bicep curl pose). The photoshopped one looks a bit overexposed?

Looks great! That turned out extremely well! I must’ve seen Adam at some point after you’d been, ’cause he was talking about your pictures when I was there. Very nice guy, I’d have to agree.
